UX RESEARCH, STARTUPS, AND FINDING PRODUCT-MARKET FIT

“The number one thing I try to get early-stage companies to focus on is cultivating a deep understanding of a problem,” says Davis. “Oftentimes you are starting from a solution, thinking you have a great idea for solving a problem. And that can be true. But have you identified a problem in need of a solution? To me, that is the much harder part. It’s about stepping back from discussing concepts and putting solution ideas in front of potential customers in order to more deeply understand the actual problem you’re trying to solve and the people for whom you’re trying to solve it.”

The lovely people at First Round Capital recently had me on their podcast, In Depth, and then turned that interview into an article for their site, First Round Review.

I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking specifically about how early-stage companies can create products that meet real human needs, so it was a real treat to get to share some of those thoughts with a broader audience.
